Library - Cycle 14



Mr. Demsko – Library Cycle 14 – April 6-20, 2017
Grade 6- Continue unit on Career Exploration.
6th grade students will be introduced to various career options as well as do research into careers that interest them.
Students will explore careers of their choosing.

Standard-13.1.3.G
Explain why education and training plans are important to careers.
Standard - 13.1.8.A
Relate careers to individual interests, abilities, and aptitudes.



Grade 5- Continue collaborative writing project.
Student will continue to work on writing a story inspired by the illustrations in the Mysteries of Harris Burdick.
Library Information Concepts: Using images to inspire writing.
Competencies: Working together to develop a story. Using images to inspire thinking.
Common Core Standard:  CC: W.5.4 Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.


Grade 4 –Continue Tall Tales unit. Johnny Appleseed. We will continue our look at various Tall Tales as how they represented various occupations who helped build this country.
Objective:  Understand the elements of a Tall Tale.
 Library Information Concepts: Identifying Literary Elements.
Competencies: Students respond to works of literature – with emphasis on comprehension and making connections among ideas.
Common Core Standard: CC.1.3.4.K  Read and comprehend literary fiction on grade level.

Grade 3 - Fairy Tales around the World Unit.
This week: Rapunzel
We will look at various well known fairy tales as well as similar stories told around the world and compare and contrast these stories.
Objective:  Understand the elements of a Fairy Tale.
Library Information Concepts: Identifying Literary Elements.
Competencies: Students respond to works of literature – with emphasis on comprehension and making connections among ideas.
Common Core Standard: CC.1.3.3.F, CC.1.3.3.G


Grade 1- Patricia Polacco – My Rotten Redheaded Older Brother..
A look at author illustrator Patricia Polacco.

Library information concepts: Identifying Literary Elements.
Essential Questions: What do good listeners do? - How do active listeners know what to believe in what they hear?
Competencies: Identify characters and setting in story.
Describe key ideas from text read aloud or presented orally or
in another media format.
Explain plot in story.

Grade 2 –The Rough Faced Girl.

Kindergarten – Marcus Pfister: The Rainbow Fish.

Skills: Development of Reading Comprehension, Phonemic Awareness, Vocabulary
Objective: Understand the relationship of illustration to text in a picture book.
Library Information Concepts: Identifying author and illustrator roles.
Competencies: Define roles of author and illustrator.
Common Core Standard: CC.1.3.D
