Grade 6- The Butter Battle Book. A look at how Dr. Seuss took on various social issues with his books. (Deforestation, pollution, the arms race, prejudice)

Essential Question: How did Dr. Seuss express his feelings about social issues in his books?


Grade 5- Continue collaborative writing project.
Student will continue to work on writing a story inspired by the illustrations in the Mysteries of Harris Burdick.
Library Information Concepts: Using images to inspire writing.
Competencies: Working together to develop a story. Using images to inspire thinking.
Common Core Standard:  CC: W.5.4 Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.


Grade 4 – Pecos Bill- Continue Tall Tales unit. We will continue our look at various Tall Tales as how they represented various occupations who helped build this country.
Objective:  Understand the elements of a Tall Tale.
 Library Information Concepts: Identifying Literary Elements.
Competencies: Students respond to works of literature – with emphasis on comprehension and making connections among ideas.
Common Core Standard: CC.1.3.4.K  Read and comprehend literary fiction on grade level.


Grade 3 - Fairy Tales around the World Unit. – The Gift of the Crocodile.
We will look at various well known fairy tales as well as similar stories told around the world and compare and contrast these stories.
Objective:  Understand the elements of a Fairy Tale.
Library Information Concepts: Identifying Literary Elements.
Competencies: Students respond to works of literature – with emphasis on comprehension and making connections among ideas.
Common Core Standard: CC.1.3.3.F, CC.1.3.3.G

Grade 2 – A look at the life and works of Dr. Seuss.

Competencies: Identify characters and setting in story.
Explain plot in story.

Library - Cycle 11 - February 10-25, 2016

Grade 6- The writing process. A look at the steps in writing as well as various types of writing.
Review the steps in the writing process: Prewrite, Draft, Revise, Proofread, Publish.
Big Idea: Audience and purpose influence a writer’s choice of organizational pattern, language, and literary
techniques.
Essential Questions: What makes clear and effective writing?
 Why do writers write? What is the purpose?
Who is the audience? What will work best for the audience?
