Grade 6- Unit on encyclopedias, and their use. (part 2) We will conclude lesson started last week, including a hands on worksheet.

Grade 5- Continue with collaborative writing project.
Using the illustrations in the Chris Van Allsburg book, The Mysteries of Harris Burdick, student will work in teams on a collaborative writing project.


Grade 4 – Unit on encyclopedias and their use. (Part 2)
We will conclude lesson started last week with a hands on worksheet.

Begin unit on Native American literature. We will explore various Native American stories.

Grade 1  Caldecott Award Books. We will continue our look at different Caldecott Award and Honor books. We will read and discuss stories.

Grade 4 – How the Grinch Stole Christmas. (DVD)
We will watch and discuss the popular Dr. Seuss story.



Grade 3
Read: Heart of a Snowman.

Grade 2
Read: The Three Snow Bears – Jan Brett.

Grade 1 
Read: Jingle Bells by Iza Trapani (Story looks at Christmas traditions in other countries).

Kindergarten
Read: Mary Engelbreit’s “A Merry Little Christmas”.


NOTE: B Week will now be the Primary lesson week since there will be class disruptions in the A Week before Christmas break and I don’t want to lose another week by waiting to start new lessons in A week of cycle 9 so I am starting them in B week of cycle 8.

B  week

Grade 6 – Encyclopedia lesson.  Students will be given a lesson on purpose and use of encyclopedias and then given opportunity to use an encyclopedia to look up information.

Grade 5 – Lesson on the Mystery genre of literature. This is in preparation of our collaborative writing project.

Grade 4 – Introduction to using an encyclopedia.

Grade 3 – Lesson on magazines. Lesson will look at their use as well as special care when checked out.

Grade 2- A look at the Biography section of the library.  Read: Snowflake Bentley.

Grade 1 – We will read the 1988 Caldecott Award book Owl Moon by Jane Yolen. This will begin a several week look at Caldecott award winning books.

KDG – A look at fiction vs. non-fiction literature.
