Grade 5 – Mystery Writing Project. Collaborative writing inspired by images from the Mysteries of Harris Burdick.
Objective: Students will begin the writing process.
Library Information Concepts: Using images to inspire writing.
Competencies: Working together to develop a story. Using images to inspire thinking.
Common Core Standard:  CC: W.5.4 Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.



Grade 4 – Read: The Polar Express, the Magic Journey.
Compare and discuss how this movie based story differs from the original story.
Library Concept: Identifying Main Idea.
Competencies: Restate part of text read aloud or presented orally or in other media formats.  Use own words when restating.

Grade 6 The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey.
We will read and discuss the story.

Competencies: Determine author’s point of view or purpose in text.

Grade 5 – Mystery Writing Project. Collaborative writing inspired by images from the Mysteries of Harris Burdick.
Objective: Students will be read a story from the Chronicles of Burdick. We will introduce the book and select picture for each group.

Grade 4 – Read: The Day before Christmas. The story of how Clement Clark Moore was inspired to write his classic poem.

November 7-21, 2018

Grade 6 – Veterans Day. A look at the meaning of Veterans Day.  Also allow time for an AR check-up.

Grade 5 – Mystery Writing Project. Collaborative writing inspired by images from the Mysteries of Harris Burdick.
Objective: Students will be introduced to the elements of mysteries and expectations for their collaborative writing project.

Competencies: Working together to develop a story. Using images to inspire thinking.

Grade 4 – Unit on dictionaries and their use. Part 1
We will go over dictionary use and do a worksheet for hands on experience.
Library information concepts: Selecting informational texts & literary non-fiction.
Competencies: Independently use various print and digital reference sources.
CC.1.2 Reading Informational Text: Students read, understand, and respond to informational text – with emphasis on comprehension, making connections among ideas and between texts with focus on textual evidence.


Grade 3 – “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” We will watch and discuss the video of the Washington Irving classic.


Grade 2 – Read: Cranberry Thanksgiving.
Competencies: Describe key ideas from text read aloud or presented orally or in another format.

Grade 1 – Read: “Gus the Pilgrim Turkey.”
