Grade 4   10:20-11:00
Lesson: Using the Library
View: Using the Library. (DVD)
Competencies: Understand purpose of a library. Independently, select grade-level appropriate literary fiction in a variety of genres.
Use literacy strategies to determine readability of a source.
Common Core Standards:  CC.1.3.4.K   Read and comprehend literary fiction on grade level, reading independently and proficiently.  CC.1.1.4.E Read with accuracy and fluency.
Essential questions: 1. Why do we have libraries? 2. How are libraries organized?

Lesson: Proper book selection. Review the 5 finger rule. Demonstrate AR.
Read: Goldie Socks and the Three Libearians.

Lesson: Continue library book care lessons.
Activity: Continue discussing how to care for library books. Emphasize that library books belong to the library and must be cared for so others can enjoy them. Explain need to return books promptly.
Read: Mr. Wiggle’s Book and Mr. Wiggles Loves to Read.
 Competencies: Demonstrate proper book handling skills.
 Common Core Standard: CC.1.1.KA Utilize book handling skills.

Lesson: Using Destiny. Students will be given an overview of how to search for books using Destiny. Begin AR.
Read: Library Mouse
Competencies: Locate library books using the OPAC. Independently, select grade-level appropriate literature in a variety of genres.
Common Core Standards:  CC.1.3.3.K   Read and comprehend literary fiction on grade level, reading independently and proficiently.

All Library Books must be returned by May 21st.
