Grade 6:    Citing sources of information. Students will be shown how to cite sources of information and create a citation in the MLA style. They will understand need for citing sources and the dangers of plagiarism.
Competencies: Create a list of sources used.

Grade 5:    Citing sources of information. Students will be shown how to cite sources of information and create a citation in the MLA style. They will understand need for citing sources and the dangers of plagiarism.
Competencies: Create a list of sources used.

Grade 4: A look at characters, plot and setting in a fiction story.
Competencies: Describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text (e.g., a character’s thoughts, words, or actions).
Common Core Standard: CCSS ELA-Literacy.RL.4.3

Grade 3: A look at the different genres in fiction.
Competencies: Independently, select grade-level-appropriate literary fiction in a variety of genres.
Common Core Standard: CC.1.3.K (3-5)

Grade 2 An introduction to the different genres of books.
Competencies: Independently, select grade-level-appropriate literary fiction in a variety of genres.
Common Core Standard: CC.1.3.K (PreK-2)

Grade 1 What is fiction? What is Fact?  A look at fiction and the difference between fact and fiction.
 Competencies: Explain differences between fiction and non-fiction texts.       
 Common Core Standard: CC.1.3.E (PreK-1)

Kindergarten:  Literature appreciation: We will look at Thanksgiving stories.
                        Week 11 Read: Olivia Talks Turkey and Off to Plymouth Rock.
                        Week 12 Read: Thanksgiving Mice and Fluffy’s Thanksgiving.
Competencies: Find connections between words and illustrations in book read aloud or read alone.
Common Core Standard: CC.1.3.G
