Library Lessons - Cycle 11 - Feb 7-25, 2013

A week

Grade 6- Continue “As the City Sleeps” writing project.



Grade 5- “The Mysteries of Harris Burdick” writing project.


Grade 4 – We will continue our unit on Tall Tales, Paul Bunyan.


Grade 3 We will continue our look at Fairy Tales around the world.  Cinderella variations will be looked at.


Grade 2 We will continue unit on Native American literature.

Grade 1 We will look at the difference between fiction and non fiction books as well as what is fact and what is opinion.


Kindergarten We will look at various Valentine’s Day stories and discuss what the main idea is in each story.

NOTE: B Week will now be the Primary lesson week since there will be class disruptions in the A Week before Christmas break and I don’t want to lose another week by waiting to start new lessons in A week of cycle 9 so I am starting them in B week of cycle 8.

Grade 6 – Encyclopedia lesson.  Students will be given a lesson on purpose and use of encyclopedias and then given opportunity to use an encyclopedia to look up information.

Grade 5 – Encyclopedia lesson. Students will be given a lesson on purpose and use of encyclopedias and then given opportunity to use an encyclopedia to look up information.

Grade 4 – Introduction to using an encyclopedia.

Grade 3 – Lesson on magazines. Lesson will look at their use as well as special care when checked out.

Grade 2- A look at the Biography section of the library.

Grade 1 – We will read the 1988 Caldecott Award book Owl Moon by Jane Yolen. This will begin a several week look at Caldecott award winning books.

KDG – A look at Laura Numeroff’s books including, “If you give a dog a donut” and “If you give a cat a cupcake”.
