Lesson: On-line Resources: A lesson on on-line resources available through Power Library.
Competencies: Independently access and locate information in on-line resources.
Essential question: 1. What is an on-line resource.

Grade 4  9:45-10:30  
Lesson: A look at libraries. A look history of libraries.
Read: Using the Library. (DVD)
Competencies: Understand purpose of a library. Independently, select grade-level appropriate literary fiction in a variety of genres.
Use literacy strategies to determine readability of a source.
Common Core Standards:  CC.1.3.4.K   Read and comprehend literary fiction on grade level, reading independently and proficiently.  CC.1.1.4.E Read with accuracy and fluency.
Essential questions: 1. Why do we have libraries? 2. How are libraries organized?



Grade 3 10:30-11:15  
Lesson: Using Destiny. Students will be given an overview of how to search for books using Destiny.
Read: Library Mouse: A world to Explore.
Competencies: Locate library books using the OPAC. Independently, select grade-level appropriate literature in a variety of genres.
Common Core Standards:  CC.1.3.3.K   Read and comprehend literary fiction on grade level, reading independently and proficiently.

Lesson: Proper book selection. Review the 5 finger rule.
Read: Goldie Socks and the Three Libearians.
Competencies: Independently, select grade-level appropriate literature in a variety of genres.
Common Core Standard: CC.1.3.2.K  Read and comprehend literature on grade level.
Essential questions: 1. What is an appropriate book for me? 2. Why is it important to select a just right book?


Kindergarten: 2:00-2:45
Lesson: Continue library book care lessons.
Activity: Continue discussing how to care for library books. Emphasize that library books belong to the library and must be cared for so others can enjoy them. Explain need to return books promptly.
Read: Mr. Wiggle’s Book and Mr. Wiggles Loves to Read.
 Competencies: Demonstrate proper book handling skills.
 Common Core Standard: CC.1.1.KA Utilize book handling skills.

Grade 6- Continue group research project.

Objective: Students will work as teams to research a topic using various print and electronic resources and then present their work in a PowerPoint presentation.
Library Information Concepts: Research Process: Developing Research Topic and Questions.
Competencies: As part of grade-level-appropriate research process:
·       Develop self-generated, focused research question.
·       Develop sub-questions about topic.
·       Use information to answer research questions and further develop questions about topic and discover new information.
Common Core Standard: CC.1.4.V (6-8)



Grade 5- Continue collaborative writing project.
Student will continue to work on writing a story inspired by the illustrations in the Mysteries of Harris Burdick.
Library Information Concepts: Using images to inspire writing.
Competencies: Working together to develop a story. Using images to inspire thinking.
Common Core Standard:  CC: W.5.4 Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.


Grade 4 –Continue Tall Tales unit. We will begin creating our own Tall Tales. We will pay close attention to the use of hyperbole.
Objective:  Understand the elements of a Tall Tale.
 Library Information Concepts: Identifying Literary Elements.
Competencies: Students respond to works of literature – with emphasis on comprehension and making connections among ideas.

Grade 3 - Fairy Tales around the World Unit. –

We will look at various well known fairy tales as well as similar stories told around the world and compare and contrast these stories.
